Matthew 11:28 “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.
Starting a new chapter in life is exhausting. The first weekend after my new job I could not function for two days. After resting, I was finally feeling human again. It has also been challenging figuring out a new schedule. The previous two months have allowed me time to rekindle the love I had for several areas of my life that due to work, kids, and pregnancy had fallen by the wayside. Now I am trying to figure a new schedule while working 40 hours a week, spending time with family, and continuing to work on these passions I have. It has become overwhelming.
I was reminded tonight that I am not the only one who is adjusting to this new life. Chris and the girls are doing so as well. This has been a lot of adjusting our family has gone through in the last 6 months. It is a lot of adjusting everyone has gone through in the last 6 months since COVID made its permanent residence in our lives. Just when we think we have settled into a new routine, something else pops up to remind us not to get comfortable. We have been blessed that our girls did go back to school, but I cannot imagine the families that have been faced with finding a solution to their children being in school virtually and still working. All these changes have left us tired and worn out.
In Matthew 11, God tells us to come to Him. He is our source of rest for our soul when we are overcome with the troubles of this world. I will be honest with you, I often think of God when I am at my last straw. Like many Christians, I have the mindset that I can figure it all out myself. There is no need to bother God with the small troubles of my life. But He tells us to come to him with everything the big and the little. There is nothing too small for God.
When we are overcome with the stress of figuring out a unique school year, God already has the answer. It amazes me to think before God even created the world, He already knew about COVID and how it would affect our lives. He already knew everything that would happen in your life before He breathed into Adam’s lungs. He has seen our struggles and our triumphs before they have happened. He wants to give us rest, to release our burdens from our shoulders, and take them on Himself. He already has taken our biggest burden when He died on the cross for us. He released us from a burden we would never have been released from. I need to be reminded daily to sit back and let God show me the answers to the problems in my life. I need Him to show me what is important and the things I need to worry less about. He has the answers to life, but are we willing to slow down and be quiet for Him to show us those answers? I want to challenge you and myself to do just that. Let’s slow down, enjoy our life more, and ask God to show us the answers.
